If you want minimum desk space and maximum sound, then the La Boite LD120 Hi-Fi Soundsystem Laptop Desk ($1,680) will suit you well. Developed by Paris-based La Boite Concept and CC LAB, this 22.5″ w x 20.5″ d laptop desk is packed with enough audio power to crank up your jams while you crank out some work. It has a built-in DAC (digital to analogue converter) sound card that translates the digital audio of the laptop via USB into a much higher quality analogue sound card. The signal is fed to two 25 watts and one 70 watt amp, and then to seven speakers developed exclusively for La Boite: two tweeters, two full range, two mid and one woofer. The desk also has a built-in sensor that reverts the system to standby when the speakers haven’t been used for 15 minutes. Just try not to keep the neighbors up when you are working late.
If you are looking for a new desk for your home/corner office/cubicle, check out the Paul Desk ($595) from one of our favorite Made in the USA e-stores, the Wintercheck Factory. It’s made in Pomona, CA and comes in walnut, cherry, or a lacquered finish (like the “antifreeze” blue pictured here). It has both large and small storage units, two desktop cutouts for cord management, and it only has 8 screws, which means easy assembly. They will even send you a color sample set if you are unsure of which color you want. And just in case you had any doubts about its origin, the desk comes with an individually numbered metal production tag.
An organized desk is severely underrated. The Studio Desk ($599.95) by Bluelounge pays specific attention to what is on, or rather under, your desk. With a sliding desktop and a spacious undercarriage, the Studio Desk allows you to store all power cables, AC adapters, USB hubs, external hard drives, and other accessories out of sight, leaving you with a clutter-free desktop.
If George Jetson were around today, he would have a desk like The Ledge ($1300-$1500) by urbancase. This wall mounted desk reminds us of an old writing desk at 42 inches long x 17 inches deep x 7 inches high. Comes in either solid walnut or a painted finish, with a hidden cord management system to keep you desktop clutter-free.
If you are like us, you can’t drain 3’s like Wilt Chamberlain or dunk like Jordan, but that shouldn’t prevent you from doing work on the floor. Bring the court to your office with the The Origin Workstation ($4,160) by designer Mirato. This whopping 4’x10′ desk is made with reclaimed gym flooring, with eight below surface storage shelves and powder coated steel legs that encompass the gym flooring table surface. We can’t promise that it will make you a better baller, but it will certainly make you feel the part.
If your office desk is looking a little too plain, it’s time to rethink the way you look at your desk accessories. Think of them as desk ornaments that bring style into your business. These Industrial Desk Accessories ($6.99-$69) from Restoration Hardware are a good start. Choose from a heavy duty pencil sharpener, carbon-steel super clips, giant super clips, amazingly powerful magnets, and ACE pilot 404 Stapler, and an aluminum tape dispenser.
